I live in Australia and started up with a Gridiron club late last year being a big fan of NFL and playing flag football. The club I joined has collected a whole lot of gear over the years and have lots of spare helmets and pads that players can wear. However, there are only a few small/medium sized helmets of varying brands and shapes that me and a few other guys fight over (with our smaller heads) otherwise we wind up wearing an older helmet that doesn't really fit.
So this season i thought i would buy my own gear, but living in Australia makes my choices a bit limited (and a bit expensive). I researched a few places online and found some helmets I liked at on okay price through amazon. However after measuring my head, I am 20.6 inches, which is 0.1 inches above a size small (19"-20.5") and only just in the medium size (20.5"-22"). The Schutt helmet website advises that if your just in between sizes then go to the lower size first and try it on (which i can't do because there are no physical stores to try).
I'm stuck as to whether to go for the small size to ensure a snug fit or take a chance with medium and make sure i can actually get my head it into the helmet. The helmets I'm looking are also inflatable so i'm hoping if i get a medium i can just inflate to the size i need, as if I buy a small and it doesn't fit I think I'll be kind of stuck with it as apparently very few people fit into a small? Any suggestions or similar experiences?
