Does guest posting on other blogs despite weak content?

I've heard guest posting on blogs is one of the best ways to build traffic if you're just starting out.

I've found a keyword that has decent search volume and low-competition, but the niche overall is competitive and there are plenty of articles on this topic.

For that keyword, although I'm sure my article content is better than the existing webpages on the top 10 google rankings for that keyword, I'm not so sure viewers who are familiar with the topic but under different keywords will find my content that unique

I was concerned if I were to guest post on another blog, either the owner of that blog won't like my content or whoever reads my article from that blog won't like it.

Is this a valid concern? Is it only worth guest posting once you're certain your article will definitely be better than most other related articles? Or is it good enough that it's content is better than the other articles for that keyword?

Also, when you guest post, how do you decide which blog to post on? Any large blog besides the ones that rank for that given keyword? What if that blog also has articles related to my guest blog post, but they used different keywords?
