Is it the same standards for being inspired or adapting recipes for essential oils and diy skin products as it is for food recipes?

I was wondering if the same rules and etiquette apply to essential oils and other home made products. I have looked for an answer via Google, Bing, and Pinterest. However, it seems all articles I could find are for food recipes.
