Hi Blogging peeps! I searched the sub seeking some clarification regarding copyright and quoting other articles in your blog.
Couldn't find a decisive answer so I thought I'd share my current understanding and see if this is correct or clarify if not.
Should be helpful for those in the future who are new and looking for a decisive answer on the subject.
My understanding is that it's OK to quote other articles on the internet so long as:
- Blockquote to designate not duplicate content
- Attribute the author and link to the website/original post
- Check for any written license/site access terms on the site (get written permission if required)
- keep quote short
- write plenty of original content about the quote before and after
The worst that can happen is they threaten to sue if you don't remove their content. Or maybe they can sue you for using it even if you do get it taken down, though that'd be pretty extreme I imagine.
Anyway this is what I am currently doing and would like to get some feedback as to if this is kosher or if I need to go a step further and add anything,
Thanks!
