Sorry this is so long, by the way! I just wanted to give as many details as possible. So I’m THINKING about starting a blog. I have no idea how it’s going to pan out, but I do know that I love to write, so I’m hoping it could be a fun way to incorporate what I love into something I can market and share with an audience. Let me start by making this disclaimer: I have NO idea what I’m doing. I know that if I decide to take on this endeavor, I obviously will have to become much more informed on the entire process and treat it as an investment.

For now, I’m just seeking advice on the concept behind the blog itself, and whether people think that it could be even slightly successful. I have a couple of friends that I think could help me write content, but ONLY if I feel like it has legitimate potential. I also would want it to end up being interactive, in that people could submit content, if they wanted. But I guess that would come with time.

I’m tossing around a few possible blog names, so this one is not set-in-stone, but for now I’m thinking of calling it Life Spice. It’s a play on the idiom “variety is the spice of life.” The entire concept is based around “a broke millennial’s guide to the universe.” So, somewhat of a multi-niche lifestyle blog. I KNOW multi-niche blogs are super frowned-upon for beginners, but the thought process behind this is that I’m a terribly inconsistent individual and I think I have more potential for success if I constantly have new/revolving content genres to work with.

Basically, I want the blog to be comprised of different segments, under which I can file associated content. These are the ideas I have for the segments thus far:

  1. Flat Broke — This will be the “bread and butter” of the blog. A little over a month ago, I made the impulse decision to quit my day job due to its detrimental effect on my mental health. Had I not, this entire idea would never have occurred. Since then, I’ve been solely surviving off of side jobs, freelance, and sex work. This segment will be dedicated to money-making outside of the confines of 9-to-5 employment. I plan to post blog pieces on couponing, useful apps and websites to refer to, guides to finding freelance and micro-tasks, and other side work to help scrape by while in-between jobs.

  2. Fool’s Gold — This segment will be my “fun section.” I want it to be a PSA that broke girls can look good, too! This is where I’ll post pieces on bargain fashion, drugstore dupes for high-end cosmetics, wholesale shopping, thrifting, second-hand selling, etc.

  3. Burning the Midnight Oil — This segment will be for the party AND the after-party. I’ll post articles for the night owl, about the night life. Horoscopes, drink recipes, after-dark discussions, a forum (maybe), sex pieces, etc.

  4. Graveyard Shift — This segment will be dedicated to late-night side jobs; sex-work and other methods and tips for making money while you sleep.

  5. Helter Skelter — The segment for the disorderly. This one is a general ode to me, because I am a chaotic individual who needs constant reminders to stay on-task and not be a trashcan. Organizational how-to’s, tips to declutter your life and environment, motivational pieces, and self-help articles galore.

  6. Loose Ends — Blog entries about self-care. Feminist think-pieces, spotlight articles, makeup tutorials, blogs, homage to my fellow cat-ladies, cringy journal entries, etc.

  7. Murphy’s Law(suits) — The place to go for Pity Parties (to throw your own or attend someone else’s). Basically, you can submit your woes if you want. You can pore over personal essays involving great matters of misfortune (or insignificant ones, whichever). You can find information about internet panhandling, crowdfunding assistance, charity cases for the general public. Basically, a directory for rock-bottom financial safety nets.

  8. The Bottom Drawer — You know that drawer that everyone has that is full to the brim with useful odds and ends? It’s this segment. This is a segment full of life hacks, how-to’s, lighthearted think-pieces that aren’t terribly time-consuming or intense to read.

  9. Scram Corner — A nest for pieces regarding scams and pyramid schemes. This is where you can read all about “get-rich-quick” opportunities (that probably don’t work) and rags-to-riches prospects. This is also where we’ll post reviews of new apps and products that are supposed to provide some significant financial gain, or precautionary posts about scam sites.

  10. Flukes & Flakes — Broke millennials need love too! This section will be for relationship advice (heavy satire, obviously), dating articles, Q&A’s, and general cynicism. It’s also a place to submit/read hate comments, troll messages, and creepy/bizarre submissions or anon comments.

  11. Off The Record — I love poetry, F Y I. This will be a central hub for poetry submissions, mental health pieces, confessions, slam poems, and free-verse.

  12. Flotsam and Jetsam — Random articles. Unspecified polls, playlists, podcasts, and product reviews. Maybe little About Me segments for authors of submissions? Comment boxes/pitch ideas, as well.

I guess it’s all a bit vague for the moment. But if you could give me your honest opinion on whether it’s worth paying for a decent blog host to try this idea out, I would be hugely appreciative!
