After watching some Youtube videos by The Income School and reading some books, I decided to start my blog and give it a go.

About me and my goals:

I'm currently still a student so I do not expect to make a full-time income off this blog. I am taking this as a learning experience so that in the future, I will be able to do this better. Currently, I do not have plans on monetizing my blog but if I gain enough traction, I may look into it. My goal is to have about 1000 page views per month by the end of a year.

What I've done thus far:

As of now, I have only 2 posts up on the site along with 4 static pages. I understand that I need to post a lot more to gain traffic but I'm currently stuck in a dilemma between posting all my content at once or doing regularly posting. It takes time for the posts to rank on Google but I am afraid that I will not be able to post consistently if I release all my posts now. I currently have 5 posts written up just waiting to be released.

I also set up Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest for my blog. I am very new to using Pinterest and still trying to figure out how to use it effectively to bring traffic to my blog.

As for plugins, I have

  • Akismet Anti-Spam
  • Google Analytics for WordPress by MonsterInsights
  • Jetpack by WordPress.com
  • OptinMonster API
  • WPForms Lite
  • Yoast SEO - I found this to be a lot of help for a beginner like me. I'm currently using the free version and it still gives me a lot of guidance regarding SEO.
  • Mailchimp - I've downloaded this and tried to give it a go. Unfortunately, it requires me to include my address in the email and I am not comfortable with it. I've been trying to find a way around it but to no avail. As traffic picks up, I will try to look for an alternative.

The site's traffic thus far:

Between setting up the blog on 7th April 2020 to a month later, 7th May 2020, the site's statistics are as follow:

  • 49 unique sessions
  • 110 page views
  • 76% new visitors and 24% returning visitors

For my fellow bloggers on this subreddit, please do give me some feedback on how I can improve or even just follow my progress to see how it goes! Cheers!
