Hi all
Thought I'd share my thoughts over the past 6 months of blogging and some of what's "worked" and what hasn't worked. When I say something "worked" it means something was successful at helping me enjoy blogging and/or get the right type of attention.
When I first started blogging my goal was to get 10 or so unique views a day. That was a very superficial goal but I think I do need some attention in order to justify doing this. At the moment I am getting about 20-30 views a day with 50 or so subscribers.
What's worked:
1) Moderating my expectations and learning to enjoy the process of blogging independent on any attention
2) Talking to people in this community & other bloggers
3) The stuff I didn't expect - I have found that some of my posts rank for key words completely unintentionally
4) Guest posting on similar sites and reaching out to well known bloggers in my space
5) Simplifying the blog as much as possible to avoid it becoming a time sink
6) Not forcing a post idea - the thoughts should come naturally from what I experience in day to day life
What hasn't worked:
1) Seek artificial attention eg by posting content on forums relevant to my niche
2) Twitter - I find it very frustrating and superficial and absorbs a lot of mental energy. Then again I am not very good at it.
3) Checking views each day and keeping track of what's happening
It'd be great if you guys could also share your experiences also. Thanks.
